HFD

The Human Fertility Database (HFD) is a joint project of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) and the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID). The HFD will be based at the MPIDR and aims at closing the gaps in the availability of fertility data and comparability. The project is partly funded by the REPRO project. The main goal of the database is to document changes and inter-country differences in fertility in the past and in the present time. The HFD will give the international research community and other interested users open and user-friendly access to detailed high-quality data on period and cohort fertility. Following the example of the Human Mortality Database (www.mortality.org), the guiding principles are comparability, flexibility, accessibility and reproducibility.
